Bay Of Plenty

The Bay Of Plenty was given this much-deserved name as a result of James Cook noting himself just how plentiful this bay was when he first landed in 1769. After so long at sea, it must have been a welcome sight to see a beautiful sandy bay surrounded by plantations and villages. Luckily for modern travellers, it is just as plentiful today. Now, this must-see place boasts orchards, gardens, local beers, and a lot of fresh seafood to enjoy.

The bay is the perfect location to stop and enjoy the local produce while soaking up the sun on the beautiful beaches. If you want to add some excitement into your time here, then this is a great place to enjoy some of the best in outdoor beach pursuits.

On Koekohe Beach sits a natural wonder that is fascinating to behold. The Moeraki Boulders are spheres of stone that seem placed upon the beach in a formation that, at first appears unnatural but are actually naturally formed over years of shoreline erosions. This natural wonder has intrigued people over time and comes with their own set of local legends. So take a trip to see the stones and hear the myths that surround them. We just had to include the option to visit these boulders in our Wonders of New Zealand Tour so that travellers can visit this must-see attraction.

Fox and Franz Josef Glaciers

A trip through the Southern Alps wouldn't be complete without stopping to take in the awe-inspiring ice valleys that seem to flow from mountain top to the sea. The movement of these glaciers is hard to spot by eye, but they are made of slow-moving blue ice that is a wonder to behold.

This pair of glaciers are the most accessible of any in the world, and with care, planning and a local guide can be walked and hiked among giving you the rare opportunity to see some of the harshest of climates first hand.

While you are there, you can stop for a relaxing dip in the glacier hot pools! A once in a lifetime experience.
