About Australia

In land area, Australia is estimated to be 7,692,024 square Kilometers and the sixth largest nation after Russia, Canada, China, the United States of America and Brazil. It has, however, a relatively small population. Australia is the only nation to govern an entire continent and its outlying islands. The mainland is the largest island and the smallest, flattest continent on Earth. It lies between 10° and 39° South latitude. The highest point on the mainland, Mount Kosciuszko, is only 2,228 metres.

Climate

Australia's climate varies greatly throughout the eight states and territories; there are four seasons across most of the country and a wet and dry season in the tropical north. Australia's seasons are at opposite times to those in the northern hemisphere. December to February is summer; March to May is autumn; June to August is winter; and September to November is spring.

Due to its size, there are a lot of different time zones in Australia! They range from UTC+8 to UTC+11 and some are even half-hour and quarter-hour time zones. Not all states and territories use daylight saving time.

The currency in Australia is the Australian Dollar (AU$) and Visa & MasterCard are widely accepted. You will find ATM’s widely available in cities and most towns. International credit cards and ATM cards will work as long as they have a four-digit PIN encoded.

All goods and services are subject to a 10% Goods and Services Tax (GST) included in the displayed price. Overseas visitors may be able to claim this tax back on any purchase over the value of AUD$300. Please visit the Australian Government website for more information.

Hotels and restaurants do not generally add a service charge to bills. Tipping is left to your discretion.

Stopovers

Flying to Australia is a great but long experience. You can expect to be in the plane for at least 22 hours so make sure you get up frequently and walk around. One way of breaking the long flight up is visiting one of the stopovers. We highly recommend to refresh yourself ready for the last leg of your flight.

We have a number of stopovers available on our Stopover Destinations page which lists some amazing locations such as a Bali and Bangkok. To discuss any of these please do not hesitate to get in touch.
