Itinerary

Fly overnight from the UK to Cape Town where you will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel for two nights.

Enjoy this stunning city at your own pace: head to the beaches of Camps Bay or wander through the beautiful Kirstenbosch gardens. For many, a top priority is to head up to Table Mountain for epic views over Cape Town and beyond.

On day three, enjoy a welcome group dinner at GOLD Restaurant with a 14-course meal accompanied by traditional drumming, song and live entertainment – a great introduction to South Africa!

Distance: 235km (146miles)

An early transfer to the motorhome depot to collect your vehicle and a stop at a supermarket for supplies. Your first destination is Montagu located along Route 62, a scenic alternative to the N2 highway.

Montagu serves as the gateway to the Little Karoo and is well-known for its natural hot springs, heritage and idyllic setting. This area has amazing hiking trails, Wine estates and the Breede River to explore at your leisure.

Distance: 232km (144miles)

Located in South Africa’s beautiful Klein Karoo is the charming town of Oudtshoorn: known as the ostrich capital of the world. It is surrounded by numerous ostrich farms and the golden arid landscape of the Karoo. You can enjoy the locally produced wine and port; sample ostrich meat and learn about the ostrich feather boom at the C.P. Nel Museum.

North of Oudtshoorn is the world-renowned Cango Caves, the largest cave system in Africa featuring ancient rock formations and sparkling stalactites and stalagmites.

Distance: 217km (135miles)

Set off early for your included Featherbed Eco Experience in Knysna which includes a cruise on the Knysna Lagoon, a guided walk in the Featherbed Nature Reserve and lunch under Milkwood trees overlooking the ocean.

From Knysna it is a further 1-hour drive to Storms River, Tsitsikamma National Park where you will check in for your 3-night stay. The park is home to diverse fauna and flora, including over 9000 species of indigenous fynbos, and many animal and bird species. Visit the giant Outeniqua yellowwood tree, walk The Mouth Trail: a popular crossing over suspension bridges or take an exhilarating kayaking trip at Storms River Mouth.

Distance: 229km (143miles)

Set in the enchanting Eastern Cape Province of South Africa, the Addo Elephant National Park is the country’s third largest national park and offers a truly unforgettable safari experience. This finely-tuned ecosystem provides a sanctuary to large numbers of elephant, lion, buffalo, black rhino, spotted hyena, leopard, antelope, zebra and over 400 bird species. This unique park is the world’s only park with the ‘Big 7’ - the Big 5 plus the southern right whale and great white shark off the coast of the Algoa Bay.

On Day 13, enjoy a morning guided safari game drive with lunch in the park.

Distance: 364km (226miles)

Continue your overland journey for your next 3-nights stay on the edge of the Inchara Lagoon. Whether you prefer long, scenic forest trails or curling up with a good book, Morgan Bay has something for everyone.

Distance: 315km (196miles)

A spectacular coastline boasting pristine, white sandy beaches and an wide array of wonderful natural attractions to explore. The nearby Selaka Nature Reserve offers a birdwatcher’s paradise and the chance to see the cute Cape clawless otters. Why not head to the sulphur pools for a natural mud bath, which is a healing tradition among the local Pondo people, and rinse off in the calming river waters afterwards?

Distance: 272km (170miles)

This beautiful part of South Africa offers scenic landscapes, Rock Art sites and activities such as hiking trails and horse riding. Alternatively, choose an optional tour to the Sani Pass - once a bridal path which allowed Basotho folk to transport their goods.

Distance: 363km (225miles)

The next few days sees a change of theme as the tour enters Zulu battlefield country. Rorke’s Drift is the most well known, portrayed in the film ‘Zulu’, while Isandlwana is poignant for the white cairns scattered across the battlefield, each marking a British soldier killed during the battle in 1879.

Distance: 289km (180miles)

Head north towards the Bonamanzi Game Reserve where the Hluhluwe river is regarded as one of the best bird watching locations in Southern Africa.

In the Reserve itself you are able to self-drive in certain areas or join a guided game drive. An alternative is to find a guide in Hluhluwe-Imfolozi National Park, not far away, or take a guided bush walk into the False Bay plains at Bonamanzi. This really does get you up close and personal to the amazing natural surroundings.

To maximise your wildlife experience, your tour includes a two hour ‘Hippo and Croc Cruise’ on Lake St Lucia. Step aboard the luxury ferry and see these incredible animals in comfort and safety.

Distance: 258km (160miles)

Next stop is Swaziland, officially known as the Kingdom of eSwatini. This small, landlocked nation has a unique, colourful culture and a long history as the last remaining monarchy in Africa.

The landscape here ranges from majestic mountains to sweeping savannah, from dense lush rainforest to fertile river valleys. As you travel you’ll pass the gorgeous Valley of Heaven, you can pause to buy souvenir handicrafts in Malkerns Valley and spot big game in the Hlane Royal National Park. Catching sight of a lion in its natural habitat never fails to be an enduring memory, no matter how many times you have the privilege to witness it.

Distance: 277km (172miles)

The Kruger National Park is simply vast, almost the size of Belgium, and one of the most dramatic wildlife reserves on the planet. You’ll spend three days here, with the chance to immerse yourself in the natural surroundings and marvel at the wildlife. With 147 mammal species, 114 reptile species and 507 bird species, there’s no shortage of things to see. For many, it’s all about the Big Five (elephant, lion, leopard, rhino and buffalo) and when seeking those, you never know your luck!

There’s also a remarkable prehistoric past, with hundreds of Stone Age sites, rock art and evidence of man from well over 100,000 years ago.

The Kruger is an experience of a lifetime, so we want to ensure you have the chance to see it properly. A full day guided safari is included in your tour, travelling in open vehicles with panoramic views of your surroundings, so you won’t miss a thing. You can even come back in your motorhome the next day for more.

Distance: 73km (45miles)

Onto your next destination: Sabie, and the stunning Panorama Route, one of the country’s most scenic drives.

On Day 34, set off in your own vehicle with the rest of the group to visit God’s Window, The Three Rondavels, Bourke’s Luck Potholes and the towns of Pilgrim’s Rest and Graskop, where your tour hosts will settle the entrance fees.

Distance: 349km (216miles)

Continue onto Johannesburg to drop off your vehicles at the motorhome depot before being transferred to your hotel in Sandton - ‘Africa’s richest square mile’.

Spend your final day at leisure, Nelson Mandela Square is close by, as is the main shopping centre or choose an optional activity. Share your trip memories with fellow travellers at the evenings included farewell dinner.

A last chance to maybe pick up a few souvenirs before you transfer to the airport and head home with so many unforgettable experiences to last a lifetime.
